The dissolution of the German grinding wheel safety committee, Deutscher Schleifscheiben-Ausschuss (DSA), left a vacuum in the field of accident prevention as related to abrasive tools. To maintain and improve the safety standards attained and to reduce operating hazards to users, the Organization for Abrasive Tool Safety (Organisation für die Sicherheit von Schleifwerkzeugen, oSa) has now been formed.

Headquartered in Bonn, oSa awards a proprietary safety mark to its members. Its aim is to ensure that a maximum number of members will produce safe, accident-preventing abrasive tools. Users should be able to identify safe tools by their label.

Needless to say, PFERD joined the organization from the start and made a major effort to publicize oSa activities at the Cologne Hardware Fair 2001.

Since July 2001, all abrasives of PFERD are marked with the oSa-sign.
